A Budget Template is a reusable starting budget you create a new budget from, instead of building the same structure every time. It carries over Sections, Cost Items, Variables and AddOns, so a new budget for a familiar type of job starts already shaped.
What it's for
Recurring job types, a standard commercial, a recurring client's usual budget shape, a documentary schema, shouldn't mean rebuilding Sections and line items from scratch each time. A Template lets you save that structure once and start every new budget for that job type from it. The Sections it carries over are what you structure further, the Variables and AddOns it carries over are what a new budget calculates from immediately, and any Offer Document it carries over is ready to send with only the new numbers to fill in.
How it works
There are two kinds. Workspace Templates are made from your own budgets and shared with everyone in your workspace. Turn any budget you can open into one from the budget editor's burger menu, Create Template, which opens Turn this Budget into a Template; name it, and the original budget is left untouched, a separate copy becomes the Template. You can also start a Workspace Template blank, from Templates → New Template.
Public Templates are published by Splinde. You can use them for your productions, adapt them to your internal standards and save them again as your own workspace templates. They are also collected in the public Template Gallery on the Splinde website, which lists free budget templates, among them AICP, SCoPE GWA KVA, FFA, BBC, Amazon MGM Studio, HBO, Netflix and Digital Content. Each template page has a "Start using this Template" button that opens the template in Splinde.
To start a new budget from either kind inside Splinde, open Templates in the sidebar, hover a tile, and click Use this template. Give the new budget a name and assign it to a Project.
Good to know
A Template made through Create Template carries EUR as its currency and In Progress as its status, and a budget created from it starts with those values. For a non-EUR job, set the Budget Currency in the Info tab as the first step.
