What is a Budget Block?

What is a Budget Block?

A Budget Block is a live table of budget data you drag into an Offer Document, that keeps updating as the underlying costs change. It's how a document stays a real view of the budget instead of a snapshot that goes stale the moment someone edits a rate.

What it's for

Different audiences need different views of the same budget: a client wants totals per Section, a producer wants every line item, someone comparing options wants two Scenarios side by side. Rather than building each of these by hand, a Budget Block gives you a ready-made table for the job, and it stays live. That is what connects an Offer Document to the budget itself: without a Budget Block a document is plain text, and with one it is a live cost table a client or teammate can trust matches the working budget.

How it works

Open the document pane, then Insert, then Document, and find the Budget Blocks section. Five cards are available:

  • Cost Overview, one row per Section, rolled up, no individual Cost Items.

  • Cost Details, every Cost Item, nested under its Section, with quantity, unit and rate.

  • Scenario Comparison, Main and one Scenario side by side, with a difference figure.

  • Classic Budget, the full budget tree rendered as a document-style list rather than a table.

  • Group by Labels, costs regrouped by a Label Group instead of by Section.

Drag a card onto the page, or click it to insert at your cursor. Click an inserted Block to select it: a small action bar appears with Settings, to open its configuration in the sidebar, and Delete.

Every Block that shows AddOns has a Disclose AddOn section in its settings. Each AddOn used in the budget gets its own toggle, on for a subtotal row at the bottom of the table, and a nested Show Inline option to instead show it as its own column repeated on every row. Both are independent per AddOn. With the toggle off, the uplift stays folded into the line total, which keeps an internal fee out of a client's view. Classic Budget shows AddOns as subtotal rows.

Rows in every Block follow the budget's own order, Section then Subsection then Cost Item, or the Label Group's own order for Group by Labels. If a row is hidden, the remaining rows renumber so the sequence stays consecutive.

Good to know

Cost Overview has a "hide unused Sections" toggle, which keeps the overview to the chapters that carry cost.
