Your Workspace & Templates

TLDR;

Start from industry-standard budget templates or create your own. Save any budget as a workspace template so your entire team starts from the same structure. Day 1 of the Splinde onboarding guide.

Templates & Custom Workspace Standards

Most budgeting tools give you a blank page. Splinde gives you a head start. In this guide, you will learn how to create a production budget from a template in under three minutes โ€” and how to turn your own budget into a reusable standard for your entire team.

Industry Templates, Ready to Use

Splinde ships with budget templates for the standards used across the global production industry. When you create a new budget, you choose from:

  • AICP โ€” the Association of Independent Commercial Producers standard, used across US commercial production

  • FFA โ€” the German Federal Film Board standard for feature film and TV production

  • BBC โ€” the British Broadcasting Corporation production budget format

  • Netflix โ€” the Netflix original production budget structure

  • Disney โ€” the Walt Disney Studios production budget template

  • SCoPE GWA/KVA โ€” the German standard for commercial production budgeting (Gesamtwirtschaftliche Aufstellung / Kostenvoranschlag)

  • HBO, Paramount, SAG-AFTRA, ZDF, Screen Australia โ€” and more

Each template comes with the complete section structure, subsections, and line item positions that the respective standard requires. You do not need to build the structure from scratch or look up what goes where.

How to Create a Budget from a Template

  1. Go to your workspace and click New Budget.

  2. Browse the template library and select the standard that matches your production.

  3. Enter a project name (e.g., "Social Media Campaign โ€” Q2") and a client name.

  4. Click Create.

Your budget opens with the full section structure: Pre Production, Cast, Salaries, Equipment, Art Department, Location, Postproduction, Insurance, Sundries, Travel โ€” whatever the selected standard requires. All sections, subsections, and line items are in place.

From here, you fill in your numbers. Click into any line item, and you see the input fields: Amount, Days (which can be split into Prep, Shoot, and Wrap), and Fee. Enter the values, and the line item total calculates automatically.

Currencies: Click and Convert

If you are working on an international production, you can switch the currency on any line item. Click the currency symbol (โ‚ฌ, $, ยฃ) next to the fee field, select the target currency, and the conversion happens automatically using real-time exchange rates.

This means you can have a budget in euros with individual line items in US dollars or British pounds. No manual lookup, no conversion formulas.

Create Your Own Workspace Template

This is the feature that changes how your team works. Any budget you build in Splinde can be saved as a workspace template.

Here is why that matters: every production company has its own way of structuring budgets. Maybe you always include a specific set of line items for commercial productions, or you have a standard section structure for branded content. Instead of rebuilding that structure every time โ€” or copying from an old file โ€” you save it once.

How to save a workspace template

  1. Open any budget that has the structure you want to standardize.

  2. Go to the sidebar.

  3. Click Save as Workspace Template.

  4. Give it a name (e.g., "Commercial Standard 2026").

  5. Confirm.

From now on, when anyone in your workspace creates a new budget, your custom template appears alongside the industry templates in the template picker. Everyone starts from the same structure. No more "which version of the Excel master should I use?"

Who can use workspace templates?

Every member of your workspace can use templates that have been saved. Only Admins can create or manage workspace templates. This keeps the standards consistent.

What is Next

Tomorrow, you will learn about AddOns and Variables โ€” the features that replace every formula you have ever written in a production budget. No more AGA errors, no more broken overtime calculations.
