A studio or streaming original is delivered against the studio's chart of accounts, with every cost under the right code. Open the Amazon MGM Studio Budget Template from the Splinde Template Gallery and click Start using this Template: it opens Splinde with a studio chart of accounts ready, so the codes are in place before you enter a single figure.
The template page describes account structures spanning Above the Line (codes 2000 to 2900), Below the Line (3000 to 6800) and Post Production (8000 to 8500), with room for episodic series and feature films and studio requirements such as amortization accounts. Splinde's guidance adds an Amortization of Episodes section so per-episode budgets read correctly. The gallery also lists a Netflix Budget Template and an HBO Budget Template, each opened the same way.
Open the template
Go to the Template Gallery and choose the template for the studio you are delivering to, or open one directly from the links above.
Click Start using this Template. Splinde opens with the template.
Enter your figures against the codes already there.
Match the chart to your studio
Every studio publishes its own ranges and revises them, so take the final chart from the studio you are delivering to. Because the code sits at the front of the Section or Cost Item name, a change is a rename: a Cost Item named 2100 Producer reads and sorts correctly in the budget, in an Offer Document table and in the PDF, which is where the studio's cost controller looks.
To add a group, click the + on the Sections tab, type the range or tier into the name, and nest account groups by dragging one Section onto another. Drag General Cost Item or Production Cost Item from Insert onto a Section and type the code and line name together into the Name field.
When your adjusted chart is right, open the menu in the budget header, choose Create Template and click Add to Template Gallery. It then sits under Workspace Templates for the next title.
Good to know
A Cost Item carries a name, Amount, a unit, Days (or Prep, Shoot and Wrap), Fee, a currency on the Fee, labels and AddOns. The code lives in the name, so it displays wherever the name does.
The
#column in a document table numbers the visible rows consecutively. Keep the account code at the front of the name, where it displays exactly as you typed it.Labels group costs in Smart Subtotals and in a Group by Labels block, which gives you a way to report by account group.
