Smart Subtotals is a sub-tab under Sections that rolls the whole budget up in three ways: by AddOn, by Label and by Currency. It cuts across the Section tree entirely, so one Cost Item can contribute to several rows at once.
What it's for
A plain Section subtotal only tells you what a chapter of the budget costs. It does not tell you what all the employer social contributions add up to across the whole shoot, or what everything you labelled "Above the Line" is costing in total. Smart Subtotals answers exactly that, without you having to build a separate summary by hand.
How it works
Open the sidebar Sections tab and switch to the Smart Subtotals sub-tab. Three blocks fill themselves from what is actually used in the budget, with no setup needed:
AddOns: one row per AddOn used anywhere in the budget, in that AddOn's colour, showing its combined result across every Cost Item that carries it and its share of the budget Total.
Labels: one row per Label used on a Cost Item, with a colour dot, a share of the Total and a money sum. Labels that belong to a Label Group are nested under their group, which sums its children. A Label appears once it is carrying cost, and its row includes every AddOn on the Cost Items that carry it, so it reflects the full cost rather than only the base fee.
Currencies: the sums of the Currencies used in this Budget, so a mixed-currency budget shows how much of the spend sits in each one.
Click a block's heading to collapse or expand it. It is a summary view, built for reading the budget-wide picture at a glance.
Smart Subtotals reads the whole budget however it is structured into Sections, so it stays useful no matter how the tree is organised. If the budget has scenarios, it shows the numbers of the scenario you are inspecting, not Main's.
Good to know
Smart Subtotals is the budget-wide view for you and your team. For a client-facing page, the Disclose AddOn setting on an Offer Document table decides which AddOns the client sees itemised.
