A two-hundred-line budget has to be reordered to a client's preferred structure, and that takes a handful of moves, not an hour of one-row drags. Select the rows, drag any one of them, and the whole selection travels together.
Select and move
Click the first row. Click a Section header and everything inside that Section comes with it.
Cmd-click or Ctrl-click each further row to add or remove it. A bar appears at the bottom of the budget with the count, for example
12 Cost Items selected.Drag any row in the selection. The drag preview shows a fanned stack with the count, and blue indicator lines mark every landing place that fits.
Release on a blue line. The block lands there in its existing order.
Cut and paste does the same thing without a drag. Press ⌘X or Ctrl+X, click the row you want the block to land after, then press ⌘V or Ctrl+V.
To clear a selection, click an empty part of the budget.
What lands where
Select a parent Section on its own. It brings everything inside it, so adding its lines or sub-chapters to the selection as well is not needed.
Cost lines land inside a Section. The blue lines show you the Sections and positions that fit.
A Section lands anywhere outside itself and its own contents. Moving a chapter under another chapter is how you nest it.
Pick a landing row that is outside the selection. The block lands relative to that row.
Unfold a folded Section before dropping into it. Its drop positions appear once it is open.
Good to know
A big restructure goes smoothly in passes: move the chapters into order first, then move lines between chapters.
Single rows drag the same way, so one row and a hundred rows use the same gesture.
The numbers on the left of each row update themselves after every move, so the budget reads in its new order straight away.
