Drag the levy's AddOn onto each fee it applies to, and leave the other lines alone. An AddOn belongs to a single line, so it sits exactly on the fees you choose and nowhere else.
The levy is then specific: the director's fee carries it, the equipment rental does not, and the budget shows what the production owes instead of a rounded blanket figure.
Put it on the first fee
Open the sidebar Insert tab, then the AddOns sub-tab.
Drag the levy's card onto the first Cost Item it applies to. If your levy is not among the prepared cards, use the blank Markup card. How do I budget my country's employer contributions and levies? has the steps.
Expand the strip with the chevron and check the rate.
Repeat it on the other fees
Duplicate the line. Select the Cost Item and press Duplicate Selection (⌘D). The copy carries the AddOn, so a new position that needs the levy starts with it already in place.
Drag the card again. For lines that already exist, drag the same card onto each one. A prepared card keeps its rate in a Variable, and dropping the card again reuses that Variable, so every line shares one rate. With Markup, link each rate to your Variable by typing
@in the rate field and picking it.
Lines that never receive the AddOn carry no levy.
Check where the levy landed
Open the sidebar Sections tab and choose the Smart Subtotals sub-tab. The AddOns block lists one row for every AddOn used in the budget with its share of the Total, so you see what the levy adds up to across all the lines that carry it.
Good to know
A rate field holds either the Variable or a typed number. If you type a number into a line's rate field, that line stops following the Variable. Type
@and pick the Variable to link it again. When a fee carries two levies, each one works from the same starting amount and they do not compound. To put one on top of the other, tick it in the selection menu. See I have two levies on one fee. Does the second one include the first?.
For a clear read of the lines when you review the budget, name each Cost Item for the position it covers. The strip shows the card's name.
The German artists' social fund levy works this way. See What is KSK, and how do I get it onto crew fees?.
