This article is about the German artists' social fund levy, KSK, short for Künstlersozialkasse (the artists' social fund, which productions pay into on certain fees for creative freelancers). In Splinde you drag the Künstlersozialkasse card onto the Cost Items it concerns, so the levy sits on those fees and nowhere else.
That keeps the figure specific. One blended percentage at the bottom of the budget would charge the levy on the rental house as well as on the director. Budgeting a levy in another country? See A levy applies to some of my fees, not all. How do I add it only where it belongs?.
Put it on a fee
Open the sidebar Insert tab and choose the AddOns sub-tab. The hint at the top reads Drag and drop an AddOn on a Cost Item in your Budget.
Drag the Künstlersozialkasse card onto the Cost Item that carries the fee.
The AddOn appears as a coloured strip under that Cost Item, with its name and its value. Click the chevron on the strip to expand it and see the rate.
Repeat on each fee it concerns. Fees without the strip carry no levy.
To repeat it across many positions, set up the first line and duplicate it with Duplicate Selection (⌘D). The copy carries the AddOn.
How it combines with other AddOns
Several percentage AddOns on one line each work from the same starting amount and do not compound. To apply KSK on top of another AddOn's result, expand the KSK strip, open the selection menu in its sentence line, and tick that other AddOn. Which boxes are ticked when the card arrives is set by the card, and you can change them. The details are in I have two levies on one fee. Does the second one include the first?.
The rate lives in a Variable
The first time you use the card in a budget, Splinde creates a Variable named KSK National and links the card's rate to it. Drop the card on more Cost Items and they share it. When the figure changes, edit KSK National once in the sidebar Variables tab and every Künstlersozialkasse AddOn follows. The AGA and KSK rates changed for the new year. Do I retype them everywhere? has the steps.
Good to know
A fee carries Künstlersozialkasse or Arbeitgeberanteile, never both. That follows the law, so choose the one that applies to the person on that line.
A rate field holds either the Variable or a typed number. If you type a number into the strip's rate field, that line stops following KSK National. Type
@and pick KSK National to link it again.Enter the rate your production actually owes for the year you are budgeting, in the Variable.
The result rolls into the Cost Item total, the Section subtotal and the Total automatically.
Künstlersozialkasse is one of the prepared percentage cards. Cards exist for several countries and the set keeps growing, so treat the ones you see as examples.
