Contributions and levies

How do I budget my country's employer contributions and levies?

How do I budget my country's employer contributions and levies?

Use the Markup AddOn, the blank percentage AddOn that arrives with an empty rate, and give it your levy's rate through a Variable. The levy then sits on exactly the lines it belongs to and follows one rate across the budget.

If you would rather have a prepared card for your country, ask Splinde to add one. The team prepares cards for new countries directly.

Set up your levy once

  1. In the sidebar Variables tab, use + to open Create new Variable. Name it after your levy, choose % Percentage, and enter the rate.

  2. Open the Insert tab, then the AddOns sub-tab, and drag the Markup card onto the first Cost Item the levy applies to.

  3. Expand the strip, click the rate field (it reads Number or @), and type @. Open the Variables tab and pick the Variable you created.

  4. Select that line and press Duplicate Selection (⌘D) for further positions, or drag Markup onto the other lines and link each one the same way.

Every linked AddOn follows the Variable, so a rate change next year is one edit. If you type a number into a linked rate field, that line stops following the Variable. Type @ and pick the Variable to link it again.

Several levies on one line

Put several Markup AddOns on the same line, one per levy, each linked to its own Variable. Each one takes the same starting amount, the line's own amount, so they do not compound. To make one levy sit on top of another, tick that AddOn in the selection menu. The detail is in I have two levies on one fee. Does the second one include the first?.

Keeping an internal fee out of the client's document

An internal handling or service fee works the same way. Put a Markup AddOn on each external cost line. In the client-facing document, leave Disclose AddOn switched off in the table block's Settings, and the uplift stays folded into the line total instead of appearing as its own row.

Good to know

  • The strip reads Markup whatever the money represents. Name the Cost Item or the Variable for what the money really is, and the budget stays readable months later.

  • Prepared employer-contribution cards exist for several countries, named for their country, and the set keeps growing. See Every crew fee needs employer social contributions on top. How do I add them to 200 lines?.

  • The result rolls into the line total, the Section subtotal and the Total automatically.
