German levies: AGA and KSK

The AGA and KSK rates changed for the new year. Do I retype them everywhere?

This article is about the German AGA and KSK levies: AGA is Arbeitgeberanteile (the employer's share of social insurance contributions) and KSK is the Künstlersozialkasse (the artists' social fund levy). Edit each rate once in the sidebar Variables tab, and every AddOn linked to it follows.

The first time you drag the Arbeitgeberanteile card into a budget, Splinde creates a Variable named AGA National and links the card's rate to it. The Künstlersozialkasse card does the same with KSK National. Dropping either card on more Cost Items reuses its Variable, so the whole budget stays on one rate.

Change the rates

  1. Open the sidebar Variables tab. The panel is headed Variables in this Budget.

  2. Find AGA National and type the new value. Do the same for KSK National.

  3. Every Arbeitgeberanteile and Künstlersozialkasse AddOn in the budget recalculates, and so do the Section subtotals and the Total.

Enter the figure your production owes for the year you are budgeting.

If one line did not move

A rate field holds either the Variable or a typed number. A linked field shows the Variable as a grey chip with an X. If you typed a number into one strip, that line follows the number instead, and a later change in the Variables tab leaves it alone.

To bring it back, click the rate field, type @, open the Variables tab, and pick AGA National or KSK National. The chip returns and the line follows the Variable again.

Good to know

  • In Individual mode a card keeps a rate on each row, and the Unified rate does not reach them. Link each row to the Variable the same way. The two modes keep separate settings, so a rate set in one mode does not appear in the other.

  • Deleting a Variable that lines still use keeps their figures: Splinde replaces every place that uses it with its last value and states how many. Those lines then hold a typed number and no longer follow any Variable. Read the count in the confirmation before you confirm.

  • Each scenario keeps its own copy of the Variables. To test a new rate without touching the main budget, change it inside a scenario.

  • Working in another country? A contribution rate changed this year. How do I update every line at once? covers the same steps for any rate.
