What is a Unit?

A Unit is the label above a Cost Item's middle number field, telling Splinde and anyone reading the budget what that quantity is counted in: Day, Week, Each, Percentage, and more. It is what turns a bare number like 5 into something specific, five shoot days, five weeks, five seats.

What it's for

Production budgets bill things differently: a location fee per day, a rental per week, a software seat per license, a contribution as a percentage. The Unit makes a Cost Item say which of those it means, so the number reads correctly to anyone opening the budget later.

How it works

Every workspace draws from one catalog of 61 units in 10 categories. Units in bold are switched on in a new workspace.

To set a Cost Item's unit, click the label above its middle number field, between Amount and Fee. A dropdown opens with Search Unit at the top, the current unit first, then the rest grouped by category. Click a unit and it saves immediately.

The dropdown shows the units your workspace has switched on. An admin chooses them in Settings, Units, where each unit is a toggle chip organised by the same categories, with a Search Unit... box and Select all / Deselect all for each category. Turning on more units is how a workspace gets Week or Kilogram into the picker.

If no unit is chosen, Splinde shows a label instead of leaving it blank, usually Days, or Shoot on a Production Cost Item with Prep and Wrap switched on. A Unit sits on the quantity field only. It does not change what a Reference or a Variable in that field resolves to, and it is separate from a Variable's own value type (Number, Percentage or Currency).

Good to know

Switching a field that holds a typed number to Percentage turns it into a percentage field, so a field showing 25 becomes 25% rather than 2,500%, and switching away restores the number. Admins control which units the workspace uses.
