The building blocks of a budget
The building blocks every budget is made of. Learn what a Budget is, how Sections group lines into chapters with their own subtotals, what a Cost Item carries in its General and Production kinds, how Units define what a quantity means, and how the Budget Currency and Conversion Currencies keep every total in one currency.
A Budget is Splinde's working file for one estimate, a tree of Sections and Cost Items with a currency, a status, scenarios and documents.
A Section is a chapter of a Budget that groups Cost Items, nests inside other Sections, and carries its own subtotal.
A Cost Item is one priced line inside a Section, in two kinds, General or Production, with a quantity, a unit and a Fee.
A Unit tells Splinde what a Cost Item's quantity means, from Day and Week to Percentage, chosen from a workspace-controlled catalog.
Every budget has one Budget Currency that every total is shown in, and Conversion Currencies that convert other currencies into it, live or manually.
A Scenario is a full, independent version of a budget that lives beside Main as its own column in the editor.
