Two of us are bidding the same job and we keep overwriting each other

Open the same budget and work in it together. Several people can be in one budget at once, you see who else is in, and Splinde makes sure no two people edit the same thing at the same moment.

Neither of you needs a file of your own, because there is one budget and everyone prices it in place.

Get your team in

1. Make sure each person is a member of your workspace. An Admin invites them from Settings, Team, with Invite new Member.

2. Make sure the budget sits in a Project they belong to, or is not filed in a Project, in which case every workspace member sees it. See How do I make sure freelancers only see their own project?.

3. Open the budget. Everyone who opens it is in it together.

What you see when someone else is in the budget

Circular avatars appear at the right end of the budget editor header, one for each other person who is in the budget with you. Hovering one shows the person's name. Everyone keeps the same colour each time, which is what makes the outlines on the rows easy to read.

The avatars appear as soon as a second person joins, and they cover the whole budget. If your colleague is in a Scenario and you are on Main, you still see each other.

How the work divides itself

When someone is working in a Cost Item field, that field is theirs while they work in it. The row carries their colour and their avatar, so you can see where they are and take a different line. Your own edit is protected in the same way, which means you never need to ask a colleague to step out of a field before you start typing.

A practical way to run a bid together is to split it by chapter. One of you takes crew and one takes equipment, and the totals add up in the same budget as you type. Your colleagues' changes appear in your budget as they work, so the totals you read are the shared ones.

Good to know

• Collaboration works the same on the Offer Document. Each text block, table and Classic Budget block is worked on by one person at a time.

• Anyone who can open a budget can edit it, so choose who joins with that in mind. Editors and Admins both work freely in every budget they can see.

• Several people can price one budget at once, and a client or partner you invite as a member joins the same way.
