The client wants to see what a twelve-hour day costs before anyone signs a deal memo. Drop the Overtime AddOn on the position, set the standard day and the hour brackets above it, and Splinde works the hourly cost out of the position's own fee. Because the AddOn is attached to the line, the number moves whenever the fee or the day count moves.
Set it up
Open the sidebar Insert tab, then the AddOns sub-tab, and drag the card titled Overtime onto the Cost Item.
Expand the strip. Under Set the Overtime Rates a slider labelled Base h marks the standard day, which is the first bracket.
Drag a handle, or type into the numeric field above a bracket, to set where it ends. Hover between two handles and click the + to split off a new bracket.
Enter the uplift percentage under each bracket beyond the first. The standard day is never charged as overtime.
The AddOn starts charging as soon as the rates are entered, and the line total, the Section subtotal and the budget Total follow.
How the number is worked out
The hourly rate is Amount multiplied by Fee, divided by the end of the first bracket. Each further bracket costs that hourly rate, multiplied by the hours in the bracket, multiplied by one plus the bracket's percentage, once for every day on the line.
An example. Amount 2, three days, Fee 100. The standard day ends at 8 hours and a second bracket runs to 10 hours at 50 percent. The hourly rate is 200 divided by 8, which is 25. The two overtime hours cost 2 times 25 times 1.5, which is 75 a day. Across three days that is 225 on top of the 600 the line already costs, for a total of 825.
Good to know
Brackets run in whole hours up to 18. The slider starts three hours below the end of the standard day.
The Overtime AddOn has two modes, Simple and Individual. They are separate from the Unified and Individual modes that percentage AddOns have. See the article on charging overtime per day for when to use which.
On a Production Cost Item the AddOn works on the total of Prep, Shoot and Wrap, not on the shoot days alone.
The per-hour caption inside the AddOn shows Fee divided by the standard day. With Amount above 1, read it as a rate per unit and read the bracket figures as totals for the whole line.
